Installing Terramodel 9.7 on Windows 2000 or XP with Service Pack less than 4
Problem
When the Terramodel installation starts, it displays a message stating the computer has Windows
NT Service Pack 1 or 2 installed and that Terramodel requires Service Pack 4 or
greater. The installation then closes without installing Terramodel.
Cause
Windows 2000 and XP share the same registry names as Windows NT. During
the start up of the Terramodel installation on Windows NT, it checks for the
Service Pack level by looking at a specific value in the registry. If
the value is equal to or greater than 4 (indicating Service Pack 4) then
the installation proceeds. Otherwise it informs the user to install
Service Pack 4 and retry the Terramodel installation.
Solution
- Create a temporary folder (e.g. C:\TMCD\)
- Copy all the files from the root of the Terramodel 9.7 CD to the
newly created temporary folder
- Download or open this updated setup zip
- Extract setup.ins from the downloaded zip into the temporary folder, overwriting the existing file
- Run setup.exe from the newly created temporary folder
- Complete Terramodel installation as normal
- Delete the temporary folder
- Try Terramodel
- If Terramodel cannot find the Security key, install the Rainbow Sentinel Systems Driver. The setup for the driver is in the \locks folder of the CD. The latest version is available from http://www.safenet-inc.com/support/tech/sentinel.asp.
