Installing Terramodel 10.61G

Terramodel 10.61G requires Windows 95, 98, NT 4 Service Pack 4, 2000, Me, XP or Vista.

Installing Terramodel 10.61G

Terramodel 10.61G is available on the green and white 10.60G CD from Geocomp Systems. The update to Terramodel 10.61 can be downloaded.

  1. Read the Terramodel 10.60 release notes
  2. Remove any Trimble USB keys
  3. Log in with administrator privileges
  4. Insert the Terramodel 10.60G CD into the CD ROM drive
  5. From the autorun menu, select Install Terramodel 10.60G with Geocomp Update
    1. Install Terramodel 10.60G.
      • The default location for Terramodel is C:\Program Files\Trimble\....
      • Choose a language from English, French, German or Spanish
      • If you chose English, choose between US English (the default locale with "color" and "station" idiom) and our preferred British English (with "colour" and "chainage").
      • If you are asked to reboot, choose No and reboot after completing all installations.
    2. Install the 10.60G Geocomp Update now.
      • Do NOT run Terramodel 10.60 before installing the Geocomp Update.
      • At the end of this installation you may place shortcuts on your desktop to Terramodel and the TML List.
      • You will be asked if you have Vista or later. If you select Yes, you are advised to download and install WinHlp32.exe for Vista to enable the Terramodel Help.
    3. Install the Sentinel System Driver 7.5.0 from CD, or any later version you might have.
  7. If you prepare hydrographic charts, install Terramodel HDMS 2.10.5 from the Other Applications menu.
  8. Return to the main installation menu then exit.
  9. Download and install the update from Terramodel 10.60 to 10.61.
  10. If you have Windows Vista, Open the vistaonly-winhelp-allowmacros.reg file in \Support\Vista\WinHelp folder on the CD to to add support for WinHelp32 macros for Terramodel Help into the Windows Registry.
  11. Reboot if you were asked to earlier.
  12. Log in as a local user if you are on a network and check that everything works.

Sentinel keys

  • If you have a 64-bit operating system, you will need to download and install the appropriate Sentinel System Driver.
  • Attach the Terramodel key to a parallel or USB port. If you have any other keys on the same parallel port, place the Terramodel key on last.
  • To see the list of active modules in Terramodel, look under Help... About. If Field Data is the only module listed and there is no Products button, either:
  • In Field-Data-Module-only mode, you can import and export using scripts, use the Raw Data Editor, view, AutoDraft, measure and use basic drafting and configuration functions.
  • Once the key is found and activated, other modules will be listed, and the Products button will be shown.
  • Click on the Products button. Your activated modules will be marked with a blue cross or a blue clock.
  • If you have clocks, you have the number of demo days shown. Contact Geocomp Systems to make the modules permament.
  • If the Lock Version is 2 or more, your key will support Terramodel 10.0 and later. If you need to upgrade or replace the key, contact Geocomp Systems.

TMODWIN.INI

  • When Terramodel starts up, it usually looks C:\Program Files\Trimble\Terramodel\Locale\English\tmodwin.ini for the initial default settings. The Locale subfolder will vary for different languages.
  • If you have Windows Vista, and you were using Terramodel 10.61 before installing the Geocomp Update, Windows will run Terramodel in User mode, not as Administrator and thus sometimes use a copy of tmoodwin.ini in your User folder. If this happens to you, uninstall Terramodel 10.61, reinstall Terramodel 10.60 Steps 1 and 2 from the CD, run Terramodel 10.60 once, then reinstall the 10.61 patch.
  • If you have a previous version of Terramodel, in which you have modified your tmodwin.ini or p3server.ini files, you may want to backup these files before installation, and copy them back afterwards. Otherwise, start with our defaults that we set or update during installation.
  • If you do replace tmodwin.ini, restart Terramodel then run GCTSP command to check that ..\Program Files\Trimble\Terramodel\Geocomp is in the TSP.
  • You may want to create a custom folder for your custom prototypes, blocks and bitmaps. To do this, manually edit tmodwin.ini, to add the folder path to the beginning of the TSP.
  • If you have trouble finding buttons, toolboxes, commands or ini files even though you have checked all the above, there may be remnants of previous installations causing problems, especially if you have installed Trimble HYDROPro.
  • If a TMODWIN= environmental variable has been set, Terramodel may be looking for TMODWIN.INI in the wrong place.
  • If you have Windows Vista, and you have not set Terramodel to "Run as Administrator" as described above, Vista will automatically save any changes you make to .ini files in a hidden copy, different for each user, and will ignore any manual editing or replacing of the original under C:\Program files.

Data Collectors

  • Terramodel, since 10.12, includes the Remote Device Manager, Import Script Manager, Raw Data Editor and AutoDraft. These new tools mean that you can now download and process your survey data within Terramodel without having to use the Data Collector Interface, or attaching the key.
  • Look for your instrument in the Terramodel Import Script Manager. If it's not there, check with us before you define your own script. Once you verify that you can import your data using a script, you may also want to create a script to download, or download then import. See the Field Data Module User Guide (under Help in Terramodel) for more information.
  • If you prefer to use the Geocomp Data Collector Interface with Terramodel, you will need DOS. DOS is not included with Windows Vista. See Installing Geocomp 10.08 on Windows Vista or Windows 64-bit for more information.
  • To enable the Geocomp Data Collector Interface to download from any instrument except a Geodimeter, add ANSI.COM to TM.BAT. See How Geocomp displays text using ANSI.
  • Some paths are preconfigured for the default Terramodel 10.61 DOS Data Collector Interface installation location C:\Program Files\Trimble\Shared\Geocomp. If you install Terramodel 10.61 to some other location, you will need to modify those settings manually, or reinstall with the defaults.
  • To use the Data Collector Interface, you may need to rename data files including extensions. Hiding of file extensions in Windows can be reversed in Tools... Folder Options. For Windows Me, Folder Options may be hidden.
  • If you get error 57 or 76 while downloading or configuring, you may have a problem with your permissions or communications.
