Installing Terramodel 10.12

Terramodel 10.12 requires Windows 95, 98, NT 4 Service Pack 4, 2000, Me, XP Home or XP Pro.

Installing Terramodel 10.12

Terramodel 10.12 is available on the Trimble Terramodel 10.12 CD, the Geocomp Systems Terramodel 10.12 CD , and possibly other media.

  • Insert the CD into the CD ROM drive
  • A menu will usually automatically. This menu will guide you to the installations and documents. If no menu appears, turn off all other applications (including Terramodel and email) and try inserting the CD again. If that does not work, run \autorun.exe in the root folder of the CD.
  • Select Install Terramodel 10.12.
  • The Terramodel 10.12 setup program guides you through the rest of the installation.
  • If you get an error message from the installer part way through, such as "Error 1926.could not set file security for the file C:\config.msi\.Error5.,", the installer has a conflict with some existing software. In this case, install Terramodel 9.82 or 10.13 instead.
  • The default location for Terramodel 10.12 is C:\Program Files\Trimble\....
  • If you have installed a version prior to 10, such as 9.8, this will typically have been installed to another location such as C:\Trimble\.... As long as Terramodel 10.12 is installed to a different location, you have the option of running either version.
  • Chose a language from English (UK), French, German or Spanish. The USA release also has the option of English (US).
  • Once Terramodel has been installed, continue by installing the Geocomp Update.
  • If the installation requires you to reboot, you will need to install the Geocomp Update separately from Other on the autorun menu.
  • At the end of the Geocomp Update installation, please read the release notes.
  • If you have a previous version of Terramodel, to which you have modified your tmodwin.ini, p3server.ini or alias.ini files, you may want to copy over these files. Otherwise, start with our defaults. If you do replace tmodwin.ini, run GCTSP afterwards to add our \Geocomp folder to the Terramodel Search Path.
  • Attach the Terramodel key to a parallel port. If you have any other keys on the same port, place the Terramodel key on last.
  • Install the Terramodel 10.12 Upgrade code, if you need to, following the instructions on the green sheet supplied with the CD.
  • To see the list of active modules, look under Help... About. If Field Data is the only module listed, either:
  • In Field-Data-only mode, you can only view and measure project data and use the Raw Data Editor. Once the dongle is found and activated, other modules will be listed.
  • If you have trouble finding buttons, toolboxes, commands or ini files even though you have checked all the above, there may be remnants of previous installations causing problems. If a TMODWIN= environmental variable has been set, Terramodel may be looking for TMODWIN.INI in the wrong place.
    • To check for and fix this in Windows 95 and 98
      1. Start
        • Run
        • Open SYSEDIT OK
        • In the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, remove all lines that start with TMODWIN
        • File... Save... Exit
      2. Restart your computer
    • To check for and fix this in Window 2000 and XP
      1. Start
        • Settings
          • Control Panel
            • System
              • Advanced
                • Environmental
      2. Remove all variables that start with TMODWIN
      3. Restart your computer
    • If that doesn't fix it,
      1. Backup your ..Program Files\Trimble\ folder
      2. Uninstall all versions and updates of Terramodel starting from 10
      3. Delete the ...Program Files\Trimble\Terramodel\ and ...\Program Files\Trimble\Shared\ folders including all files and folders under them
      4. Reinstall Terramodel 10.12
      5. Reinstall Terramodel 10.12 Geocomp Update

    Data Collectors

    • Terramodel 10.12 now includes the Remote Device Manager, Raw Data Editor and AutoDraft. These new tools mean that you can now download and process your survey data within Terramodel without having to use the DOS Data Collector Interface. Look in the Import Script Manager for your instrument.
    • However, if you intend to use the DOS Geocomp Data Collector Interface with Terramodel, you will need DOS. DOS is included with all versions of Windows. For Windows 2000, DOS needs to be enabled during the initial Windows installation. Windows Me and XP Home do not support the real-mode component of DOS.
    • Downloading using the DOS interface with data collectors other than Geodimeter, require the device ANSI.SYS to be loaded. Since this requires Real-mode DOS, this is practically impossible with Windows Me and XP Home. This can be done by editing config files in Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 and XP Pro. See GCIMPORT on our TMLLIST for more details.
    • Some paths are preconfigured for the default Terramodel 10.12 Data Collector Interface installation location C:\Program Files\Trimble\Shared\Geocomp. If you install Terramodel 10.12 to a non-default location you will need to modify those settings manually, or reinstall with the defaults.
    • You may need to rename data files including extensions. Hiding of file extensions in Windows can be reversed in View.. (or Tools...) Folder Options. For Windows Me, Folder Options may be hidden.
    • If you get error 57 or 76 while downloading or configuring, you may have a problem with your permissions or communications.
    • Spectra Precision Geodimeter Software Tools (SP GST) is not automatically installed with Terramodel, even though it may appear on the Terramodel File Menu, and may be supplied on the same CD. Its functions are largely replaced by the Remote Device Manager.
    • Terramodel also has interfaces to Geodimeter, Trimble, and TDS instruments, and a system of scripts which can be user-defined for almost any other survey data collector.
